How to Create A Gourmet S’mores Bar

March 4th, 2010 · No Comments

S’mores bars at weddings, birthday parties and celebrations of all kinds are starting to catch on.  They add whimsy and fun to an elegant event and taste good to boot.  Using Plush Puffs Gourmet Marshmallows keep the elegance and sophistication of the event going even when all your guests revert back to childhood days of toasting ‘mallows over a campfire.

And it couldn’t be easier to do-it-yourself and make an eye catching s’mores bar that will have your guests raving for years.

Set up a table that matches your linens and decor for your event, with an extra vase of flowers or just a few of your flowers sprinkled around.  And here’s all the other things you’ll need to make a memorable s’mores bar!

  • 2 pounds of Plush Puffs Gourmet Marshmallows per 75 guests (we recommend 1 pound each of 2 flavors)
  • A fun selection of cookies.  About 300 cookies/crackers for 75 guests to have 2 s’mores each.  We love using Petit Ecoliers, snickerdoodles, graham crackers, Trader Joe’s Meyer Lemon or Ginger Cookie Thins or Pepperidge Farm Chessmen, Brussels, or Geneva for example.
  • About 150 chocolate squares per 75 guests.  We often use a mix of individually wrapped Ghirardelli squares.  You may want some extra for general chocolate munching :-)
  • 2 “toasters” per 75 guests
    • 2 white dinner sized plates
    • 8 Sterno 2-hour gel chafing fuel cans.  This will be enough for 2 toasters for 4 hours, plus some extras.  Someone will have to replace the cans after 2 hours.  They are inexpensive and can be found at party supply stores or Smart-n-Final and similar stores
    • 2 ramekins just big enough to hold the Sterno cans
    • A long stick lighter to light the Sternos
  • About 300 wooden skewers (4 per 75 guests).  They come in packs of 100 at Smart-n-Final
  • 2 to 4 vases to hold the skewers, point side down
  • 4 jars to hold the marshmallows, 2 for each flavor
  • 4-6 plates to hold cookies/graham crackers and chocolate.  You can also spread the chocolate squares around the table if they are individually wrapped.
  • Napkins and/or small plates on the table for guests to assemble their s’mores on and de-stick with.

It’s as easy as that.  Have your caterer set it up or as a friend or family member to help out.  The only maintenance is to make sure the Sterno is replaced when the fire is running out and replenishing any ingredients or skewers if they are running low.

Have fun!
