It’s that time of year when everything worth existing is converted to Pumpkin Spice flavor. One of the best and most associated with cooler weather (at least if you’re not in southern California) is a pumpkin spice latte or other pumpkin spiced coffee drink. The major coffee places like Starbucks and Coffee Bean and Corner Bakery do make extremely good pumpkin-y espresso treats. I love indulging in them. But I also like to dress up my own coffee at home and save a few cents, calories and fat grams!
If you have a fancy espresso machine, like a Nestle Dolce Gusto which I have, you can easily make a latte or cappuccino. While good, they aren’t low fat. So here’s how to make a creamy, frothy, coffee, with pumpkin spice sweetness by using lowfat (or even nonfat milk), and a few Pumpkin Spice Plush Puffs Hand Crafted Marshmallows! Five (yes! 5!) Pumpkin Spice Plush Puffs marshmallows are only 70 calories and have ZERO grams of fat. So, by using low or nonfat milk, three Plush Puffs pumpkin marshmallows, and no additional sugar, you have a very low calorie, and low- or nonfat pumpkin coffee drink!
- A cup of your favorite coffee
- 1/4 cup or 1/3 cup of lowfat or nonfat milk. Lowfat adds a little bit of fatty flavor to the coffee without adding too much fat, but nonfat milk keeps your pumpkin coffee totally fat free. The amount of milk depends on how much milk you prefer.
- 3 Pumpkin Spice Plush Puffs marshmallows
Make some coffee! Any kind, anyway you like. To keep calories low, make non-flavored coffee. If you have some flavored pumpkin coffee, that’s fantastic!
While your coffee is brewing, in another cup or a measuring cup, heat the milk in the microwave for only about 20 seconds. This is just to get it a little warm so it doesn’t cool down your coffee too much.
Use a milk frother to froth up the milk. I got this one on Amazon for under $10.
It works like this:
When the coffee is ready and the milk frothed, pour some of the non-frothed milk from the measuring cup into the coffee and then spoon the frothed milk on top.
Top with 3 Pumpkin Spice Plush Puffs Gourmet Marshmallows and you’re good to go!
I stirred the marshmallows into the hot coffee so that the marshmallows mixed with the frothy milk and melted into the coffee to spread the sweetness and the pumpkin spices around. The marshmallows flavored the whole drink well. If you want more pumpkin spice flavor or sweetness, add more marshmallows! Remember, even FIVE of them only have 70 calories and ZERO grams of fat!
