Is it donut or doughnut? I guess it’s a matter of preference or where you get your donuts. But however you spell it, they taste goooood. And when it’s National Donut Day then all the better! And today June 3, 2011 is in fact that day. It’s the 73rd annual National Doughnut Day in fact. The Salvation Army is often credited with inventing donuts. Maybe, maybe not, but they did popularize them and did feed a lot of them to American troops during WWI and WWII. My local donut shop, K’s Donut Emporium in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd. is donating some of their sales today to the Salvation Army – so if you’re in the ‘hood, go and buy some doughnuts!. In fact, go and buy some donut holes, like I did, and make some donut s’mores!
- Fresh donut holes from your favorite doughnut or donut shop
- A variety of flavors of Plush Puffs Gourmet Marshmallows
Cut the doughnut holes in half. Toast up marshmallows and sandwich them into the donut holes. I used the lemon marshmallows (Luscious Lemony Meringue) with the chocolate donuts, Toasty Coconut marshmallows with the sprinkled cake donuts, Caramel marshmallows with the cinnamon crumble cake doughnuts, and Chocolate marshmallows with the glazed donut holes. These were some pretty darn good combinations. Mix them up any way you’d like!
